Mexican sambo wrestler Angel Delgado at the Panamerica Sambo Championship in Colombia not only won the bronze in the weight category up to 100 kg, but also became a participant in the anti-doping information and education program organized by FIAS in cooperation with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). At the FIAS stand, the sportsman took part in computer testing of rules and standards in anti-doping. In an interview with FIAS, Angel shared his results, as well as his own opinion about doping in sport.
- I already passed a similar program at the World Sambo Championship in Bulgaria, now I decided to check my strength again. It is interesting that both times my result was the same: 9 out of 10. I think I could not achieve a 100% result because some wording of the questions can sometimes be understood in two ways. In the end, I was a bit confused. And the most interesting for me was the question of whether an athlete can perform in one sport, if in another he had a positive doping test.
- Is there a place for doping in sambo and in sports in general? How do you feel about doping?
- I am extremely negative about any kind of doping and I use only the potential of my body for sports. I believe that doping is absolutely contrary to the ideas of sports, because sports are aimed primarily at the healthy development of the individual. I'm for honest sport! It seems to me that FIAS correctly does that it conducts such training programs, because they are very necessary and important for athletes, especially young ones. There are people who, due to a lack of knowledge, can use some prohibited drugs, and this will have a fatal impact on their fate and career. In this case, there are no trifles, it is better to study everything in advance, so that there are no problems.
