The Asian SAMBO Federation (ASF) was formed by the decision of the Constituent Congress of October 16, 1991 with the participation of representatives of SAMBO Federations from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Mongolia, Japan and Russia. The original name of the federation is the Asian International SAMBO Federation. The first president is Tomoyuki Harimai (Japan), Secretary General - Alexander Prokopenko (Russia).
In 2013, the ASF headquarters was moved from Moscow to Tashkent (Uzbekistan) and the SAMBO Association of Asia was established as the successor of the ASF and the main governing body of SAMBO in Asia.
SAMBO Asia Union, for a short history of existence, implements systematic SAMBO development on the continent, regularly conducts competitions and has 25 national federations in its membership.
